YUI, who announced in her official website an hiatus after an end of
year full of activities, had broadcast a special program “MESSAGE from YUI” on
November 28th starting at 22:00.
In this show, YUI
will talk personally about the reason of this pause of activities, and her
thoughts about what is she going to do from now on. They will also feature
YUI’s music videos from her debut to recent days. And this is for translation
‘Special Interview, Message from YUI’…
Q: 最初に上京してきた時の気持ちは？
Q: How did you feel when you move to Tokyo?
YUI : 上京してきた時は、16だったので、きっと何かなんだか分かってなかったんじゃないかなと思います。
YUI : When I moved to Tokyo, hmm... I was 16 y/o, so
it feels like I know nothing back then.
Q: 不安と期待、どっちが強かった？
Q: Anxious or expectation, which one did you feel
stronger?
YUI : 行く前は不安で、行くって決めた時はきっと期待のほうが大きかったと思います。
YUI : I feel anxious before, but after I made up my
mind, my expectation grew up.
Q: その当時、表現したいことは自分の中にあった？
Q: Is there something you want to express about that
day?
YUI : 最初は、たぶん、自分の感情吐き出すようなふうに歌っていたので、何かをお伝えたいというところではなかったかも。
YUI : I think from the beginning I was singing to spit
my feelings out, so I suppose there’s nothing I want to convey.
Q: とにかく「出さなきゃ」みたいな？
Q: So, was it somehow like “I just have to go”?
YUI : いろんな人の意見を聞いたりとかして、勉強しながらという感じで。でも、徐々になんとなく自分が伝えたいことっていうのが見えてきたかなと思います。
YUI : I felt like while studying, I can hear what many
people’s think of me. But, I think somehow I can see there were many things I
want to convey.
Q: デビューから8年、振り返ってみてどうですか？
Q: How do you feel when you look back at when you
debuted 8 years ago?
YUI: 8年振り返って、素晴らしい、8年お過ごさせてもらったなんて。やっぱ、最初はそんなに、きっとまあ意思の上にも3年みたいな感じで、3年とりあえず頑張ろうって、頑張れるかなって、3年生きるかなって思ってたところは以上活動させていただけたというので、本当にありがたいですね。
YUI : Looking back at then, hmm... that was a
wonderful time I spent. At first, I felt like it will only be 3 years, so I
think “I’ll do the best for the next 3 years”, or “can I do the best?”, or “can
I make it for the next 3 years?”. (Not knowingly) it’s more than what I
expected doing activities (in music), I’m really thankful.
Q: 曲作りだったり、歌うことに対して自分の中で変化はありましたか？
Q: Is there any changes within yourself after writing
songs and singing (for 8 years)?
YUI : 最初は、自分のためにって言う感じだったけど、途中からやっぱり応援してくれる人とかの顔がライブで見れたりするうちに、やっぱその人たちに感謝の気持ちを伝えたいなというふうに思ったりするようになってから、変化してたのかなと思います。
YUI : At first, it’s for myself, but during my career,
while seeing people’s face who were cheering for me, so I want to convey my
gratitude to those people, and so that I probably change.
Q: 「YUI」をお休みして新しいことにチャレンジしたくなったきっかけは？
Q: What’s the reason of you wanting to challenge new
things and taking a break as 「YUI」?
YUI : きっかけは、素直に言うと、限界がきたって感じですね。これ以上、進めないっていうところとおり過ごして、多分もう歩けなくなって、立ち上がれないところまできたのかなと思います。
YUI : The reason is, to be honest, I think I’m already
at my limit. More than that, I feel like I can no longer carry on, maybe no
longer be able to walk, or not even to stand up, I think.
Q: 「歌や音楽」と「自分」をもう一回向き合わせたくなったということ？
Q: Do you mean you don’t want to deal with songs or
music anymore?
YUI : そんな余裕もなかったかも。単純に本当に、もう心が折れちゃったというか、もう歌が歌えないくらいになっちゃったかな。それがなんの原因なのかは分からないけど、きっとまあ、自分に本当にまた追いつけなくなっちゃったのかな、わからない。それは原因は自分でも今探し中ですけど。
YUI : It’s not like that, I think. Simply, the truth
is, it’s like I already lost my spirit, I wonder if I can’t anymore sing a
song. I don’t really know why but, surely, for me I just wonder if I can’t catch
up, I don’t understand. I, myself, is now still looking for the reason.
[“kokoro ga orechatta” / “kokoro ga orete shimatta”]
[kokoro means heart, mind, or spirit. while orete
shimatta means already break, be folded, or give in. so it can mean broken
heart.]
[but I translate it as lost one’s spirit. it still
makes sense.]
Q: 心が折れた時でも、歌をやめるっていう選択肢はなかった？
Q: So, even when you feel lost your spirit, there was
no choice to stop singing?
YUI : いや、そう。最初は本当に歌が歌えなくなったような感じがしたので、ちょっともう無理かなって思ったけど歌がないほうが、自然と息を吸うように歌を歌ってきたので、そのほうがつらいなと思う。ただでも音楽を嫌いになるほうがつらい。そういう選択になりましたね。
YUI : Aah, yes. At first, since I feel like I can no
longer sing a song, I think it’s impossible (to carry on) but, if there’s no
music, since music is my life, if so (no music) it would be hard for me. It’s
just gonna be hard to hate music. So, it came to that (hiatus) option.
Q: 自分にとって音楽ってどういうもの？
Q: What is music for you?
YUI: 「ないと生けていけないもの」って言ってますね。もちろん、その言葉今もやっぱり、また歌うっていうのはそういうかなと思うんですけど。本当に、今息を吸うように、水を飲むように、ご飯を食べるように、飲食中の中に入ってる。私の中には、それが本当にないとだめなものだと思いますね。心の傷とか、孤独とかを歌ってきた。で、途中からきっといろんな人に笑顔を届けたいとか、元気を届けたいって変わってきて、それがもう生活の一部になってるかなと思いますね。まあ、聴く人がいなくても、なんか歌いたいなという感じで。
YUI : I already said (in feel my soul) that it’s
something that “if it doesn’t exist then I can’t go on living”. Of course, I
should be singing according to those words by now. But, for now, in order to
breathe the air (live), dring water, and eat rice, I really have to enter an
inshoku period. Deep inside, I, too, need them to keep living. I sang when I
feel lonely or when my heart’s broken. Then, I think, wanting to bring smile to
many people or to send spirit to them, even if that feelings change, it’s still
a part of life. Well, even if there’s no one hearing, somehow I feel like I
want to sing.
[inshoku means eating and drinking, a part of life
when we have to do to keep living. it means ‘to live normally’]
Q: この先、どうなっていきたい？挑戦したいことは？
Q: How do you want to go on? about a challenge you
want to do?
YUI : どうなっていきたい？まあ、もう自分に嘘は使わず、譲らず、あきらめず、失敗を恐れずみたいな。わがままほうだ。まあ今まで本当に沢山景況させていただいたので、それは本当にかってにして、ずっとやりたいことにぶつかってみようかなっていう。あとは・・・でもきっと私は変わらないと思うんですよ。ずっとこんな感じっていうか、変わりたくもないし。だから、どこかやっぱり変わってないって、でも私の思うやってみたいっていうのもやってみたいという。それが新しいことなのかというのは、見た人にもわかるかわからないけど、とりあえず今、これはやっとかなきゃいけないなっていう、今やっとかなきゃいけないことをちゃんと一つ一つ、やっていこうと思います。
YUI : How I want to go on? Well, by not lying to
myself, not surrendering (haha), not giving up, not being afraid of failure
(making a mistake). Being selfish/egoist (laugh). I mean, up until now,
I‘ve received a lot of feelings, so I do
things as I please, always striking (doing continuously) things I want to do.
And... but, I’m sure that I never change. I’m always like this, and I don’t
have an intention to change. That’s why, I said I don’t change. However, I
still want to do what I want to do. (and) It’s to do new things, I don’t know
if people who see it will understand of not but, for the time being, I have to
do things that I have to do one by one.
Q: チャレンジしていくためには「YUI」名義では出来ない？
Q: Can’t you use the name YUI while doing those
challenge?
YUI : そう、新しいことに、挑戦したいこととかも、徐々に見えてきてはいるんですけど、まあやっぱりそれが「YUI」名義でやるのかどうかっていうところでは、「YUI」っていうものすごく大切に思って、特別に思っているので、それはそのままちょっと置いておきたいなっていのがあって。で、新しいことに挑戦して、たくさん失敗したりとか、挑戦したいとかして。で、それでまたこうつまづいたりしても、それはそれで人生なのかなと思っていきたいなと思います。
YUI : Yes, I can see new things, challenges, little by
little but, about doing them using the name YUI, I want to keep it like that
because the name YUI for me is really important(?), it’s special for me. Then,
I challenge new things, making a lot of mistakes, wanting to do new challenges.
And, although I’ll be stumbling, that’s life, I think, and I want to keep
living.
Q: ファンの皆様へのメッセージ
Q: A message to every fans
YUI : そうですね、まず考えたのは……、でもやっぱりこのもう一回休止ってのも、実はファンの人のことを考えてだったりもするんですけど。っていうのは、やっぱりどこかでもし自分の心が壊れてしまった姿を見せたくなかったっていうのが一番大きくて……。いつもやっぱり元気な姿でいたい。みんなに元気を届けたかったので。っていうところでも選択はあったので……。ファンの人に対しての愛情っていうのをどういうふうに伝えていったらいいのかなっていう……。やっぱり誤解も受けるだろうし、2回目っていうこともあって。もちろん日々いろんなことに、ホントに紆余曲折しながら生きてるんですけど、やっぱホントに、立ち止まった姿を見て……みんながどう思うかなっていうのが一番考えましたね。
でもどこか‥怖いところがなくて、挑戦する姿を見てほしいっていう気持ちもあったりするので。なんか、もし私のがんばってる姿を見て、やっぱもう1回がんばってみようかなって思ってくれる人が１人でもいるのであれば、これからもずっとずっと頑張っていきたいと思います。
YUI : Ah yes, the first
thing come to my mind is..., but what I think the most is, this hiatus this
time, as a matter of fact, I’m thinking about my fans. What I mean is, yappari,
I don’t want to show that I already lost my spirit (genki janai/feeling not
well) to them... I want to be healthy forever. I wanted to show them my spirit.
However, since I have chosen this choise (hiatus)... I wonder how do I convey
my love for my fans... yappari, even though there are misunderstanding, (for
this) second time (of hiatus). Of course, I spend my days while meandering
(turns and twists, ups and downs) but, what I think the most is what people
will think seeing a figure stopped (one’s activities)(in this case, YUI’s
hiatus).
However.. I’m not afraid,
because I feel that I’m showing them a figure who just want to do challenges.
Somehow, maybe by seeing my struggling figure, yappari, if there’s one (even
just one) person who thinks that I have to struggle once more, from now on, I
want to keep struggling forever and ever from now on.

there are some words I don’t
translate. Actually it’s not that I don’t, but I can’t because there’s no
suitable words to use as the translation such as, yappari/yappa, iya, maa, mou,
and other things like that. there are also words that I just force to translate
eventhough there’s no perfect word to describe them. Aaah yappari there should
be english/indonesian words for those kinds of words. >.<
Even
YUI-san change her name, I hope she didn’t change her personality. I like YUI
because she has kind and unique character (talented as singer and song-writer)
that another people didn’t have it. YUI confirmed to appeared on Kohaku Uta
Gassen 63rd (12/31) and that was the last performance before she
‘hiatus’ from music ent. Seems she want to start new year to doing challenge
and find the spirit of her music soul. I wish the best things (way) for her,
please take care of yourself YUI-san… Admin desu. :')
