Oricon Best Selling Singles and Albums of 2012

Oricon has revealed the top selling singles and albums of 2012.

The big seller this year was once again mega-group AKB48. The group had the top 5 singles of the year and was the only group to sell over 1 million copies of its singles. Their album "1830m" also ranked high, selling over million copies to become the 3rd best selling album of 2012.

The best selling albums of the year came from Mr.Children. Both of their best-of albums sold over 1.1 million copies, placing 1st and 2nd on the album chart.

While Arashi may no longer be the best selling artist is Japan anymore, the group's sales were still strong this year. 2 of their single placed in the top 10 and their album "Popcorn" placed 4th, though all of their biggest releases still fell below Japan's new biggest group, AKB48, a trend that is likely to continue into 2013.
